Dress Me Like A Danielle Goldberg Girl
The It Girl Stylist + ways to recreate some of her finest work
If you think you’re unfamiliar with Danielle Goldberg, you’re not.
You know the Greta Lee Loewe campaign images I’m talking about. You’ve pinned the picture of Ayo Edebiri in a shiny leather tie. And you’re just as delighted by Saoirse Ronan’s mini JW Anderson moment as the rest of us.

None of this is accidental or happenstance. It’s Danielle Goldberg doing what she does best, what The New York Times called “Quietly Dressing Hollywood’s Cool Girls” in February. As an FIT student circa 2014, I’ve been familiar with her work through the context of her sister, Arielle Charnas, who ran the wildly popular blog Something Navy. Danielle worked with the Olsen Sisters on their iconic book, Influence, which I very much close read as a Junior in high school with notes in the margins.
For a while, she styled the twins, which was the beginning of my interest in her work. I had a friend who interned at The Row who told me the most stylish person was neither Mary-Kate or Ashley, but Danielle.
Cut to present day, she’s the de facto image creator for celebrities who love fashion. It’s sort of priority zero for cementing yourself as a Stylish Person™️. She worked with Laura Harrier for years. Laura recently collaborated with Reformation. Her relationship with Greta Lee spans a decade. It’s hard to name a more beloved fashion muse of the moment. And she just started working with my fellow Midwestern tall girl, Karlie Kloss—a transformation I can’t wait to watch.
Here’s how Ayo Edebiri describes working with Goldberg. “I get to be myself,” she said, “but also have this armor of the clothes.” This is what we’re all after in the pursuit of personal style. Let’s learn from some of Goldberg’s greatest hits.
Bonus: this is a great episode with the Lauren Sherman and Danielle Goldberg.
Top it off with all-black sunglasses
There are exceptions. And just like at Bennington, when a professor would berate someone for a grammatical error, we’re reminded that the only way to successfully break the rules is to know them front and back. So sometimes Danielle Goldberg opts for a colored lens, but for the most part, her girls step out of black cars and across red carpets in all-black lenses and frames.
I’ve always thought this style of sunglasses acts as a period at the end of an outfit sentence. Maybe blue lenses or green frames are an exclamation point. But the look feels decidedly cool and timeless.
And who CARES if I wear these almost every day? I swear, these are Warby Parker, but look very expensive on.
Secondhand pair of Celine cat eyes for under $250 on eBay.
This brand Lowercase makes really pretty sunglasses, too. They’re $400 and look it.
Maybe you’re more into aviators? These are under $100 secondhand from Gucci.
One last fav—my Ray Ban Mega Wayfarers. (They’re on sale here!)
Trust—this shape from Burberry is really cool on. And these are $85.
Find a muse—and then spin it
Muses: we all have them. The lesson here is to take the inspiration and make it our own. So Erika circa 2012, this means leaving the four inches headband you made to match Brigitte Bardot at home and trying something a little more modern on for size.
Here’s Ayo Edebiri in an outfit she and Goldberg both noted was inspired by Whoopi. But it still feels 100% Ayo. When you’re looking at references, try to make notes of what it is in particular you love about their look. Check your own closet to see what you have, then let this examination guide your eBay searches.
Here’s an example: You’re more Charlotte York than you are The Row. Try out this white boucle suit set very inspired by Chanel for $100.
Let’s say Ayo in this look is your muse. Spin it with a slightly cream suit that’s way more wearable. Here’s the top and here’s the bottom.
You could wear a pretty similar blazer from The Row with jeans and a tshirt. This is under $700 on TRR.
Maybe your muse wears round sunglasses or aviator sunglasses, but neither are really your thing. These Buck Mason ones are a perfect compromise.
Trousers + a belt
I’ve been eviscerated on Tiktok for suggesting wearing a low belt with trousers is a styling choice, but you all are much kinder than my FYP. This is Danielle Goldberg 101, absolute beginner. If there’s a low slung trouser, she’s going to be pairing a belt with it. I guess I’m pretty absent minded about belts, just the lesson here is don’t be. Use the accessory to create a little contrast in your outfit. And when in doubt: it’s a trouser and a belt.
Here’s a cool vintage leather belt for $30 on eBay. Be sure to measure for where you intend to wear your belt.
This belt is beautiful and you can use ERIKAV20 for 20% off, too.
A simple 70s pair of wool trousers from LL Bean on eBay for $36.
Ok, I promise I won’t just curate croc belts, but this one from Escada is soooo chic.
A slinky, suede option for $20! This is an XL.
Monochrome, oversized suiting
Suiting is having a moment, sure. But the Danielle Goldberg school of suiting is forever. Reach for seperates in the same exact color, size up once or twice, and keep things ultra simple underneath. Some things just don’t have to be complicated.
Sure, custom turquoise suit shorts might not be in your future, but we can all take inspiration from this look.
Vintage Armani (this is under $300) is the search term here and if you’re curious
wrote a great letter about some amazing finds last week.COS suiting is way better quality than you’d expect. This blazer is timeless IMO.
This is not a gossip newsletter, but Danielle no longer styles Kaia. She has lots of other fab women in her roster, like Mia Goth, but the two of them came up with some pretty incredible looks while they were in partnership.
This cut from Rue Sophie feels modern and ladylike. With this top? Amazing.
This is a years-old look from Danielle Goldberg, but I included it because this look might feel pretty commonplace now, but her styling had a huge impact on that.
The Frankie Shop is great for oversized suiting. Here’s the blazer and here’s the pants! The suit is less than $400 combined.
A simple Jil Sander blazer for $36 to get you started.
The hero mini
There’s nothing quite like a formal mini dress. I can practically hear Danielle Goldberg coaxing her A-list icons into structured mini dresses in a sea of gowns and suits. “Just try it!” And we could all learn a thing or two ourselves. A strong mini dress is a very unforgettable look. Avoid patterns! Find a fabric that feels comfortable! And you’re already best dressed.
This look should be studied. I love every single detail.
The brand Bernadette has been on my wishlist for at least five years. This mini is so fun for events!
Here’s a secondhand version of one of their core styles for $500. And I thought about getting married in this dress from them which is also under $500 secondhand.
Not a dress, but note how Goldberg styled both of these looks with a black pointed heel. I think it grounds them the same way her signature all-black sunglasses do.
The texture on this J.Crew Collection dress is stunning. I’d maybe shorten it an inch or two? It’s $85.
Why not go straight to the source with this vintage Loewe mini dress for $163?
I just solved your “What do I wear to a holiday party where I know there’s not going to be sufficient AC” problem.
Vintage Marc by Marc Jacobs velvet number for $65.
The drama is in the details with this dress! It’s $350.
Look familiar? This vintage Prada silk dress is $250…
Bet big on earrings
It’s pretty rare to see a bold necklace on a Danielle Goldberg outfit. But a bold earring? It’s one of her favorites. I like the fact that when she chooses to incorporate them, she doesn’t hold back.
The Solange x Danielle collaboration is a gift to all of us. The looks she creates for the artist feel really approachable, but special, every time.
At $725, these sterling silver hoops aren’t cheap, but they’ll last you forever and make even a tshirt and jeans feel like an Outfit.
This vintage pair feels like a nice foray into bigger earrings if you’re still in your dangly stage.
Or maybe you’re already very pro big earring and can easily handle these.
Bet it won’t surprise you this is a hero mini! The earrings keep the look feeling deeply modern.
Jennifer Fisher makes a slightly more wearable version.
I wear these every day, for what it’s worth.
And this might be my favorite look of all time on Greta Lee. It’s just so, SOOOO cool and not the application you would ever expect to see of 150,000 hours of hand placing crystals.
I really like these I own from Dorsey and the amount of compliments I get when I wear them further cements my appreciation. Plus, they’re under $300.

The description alone of Danielle being the more fashionable in The Row office should be the reason we care about her! For all the MK&A love, sounds like we are all sleeping on Danielle (myself included). However that picture of her in the drop crotch trouser with a belt is now seared in my mind.
when I grow up I want to be a Danielle Goldberg girl
