Everybody Wants To Dress Like Jennifer Lawrence
And the Academy Award for best street style goes to...
Reading this story on The Cut was one of those sincerely joyful moments as a fashion lover where you realize everyone else is thinking the same thing as you. Jennifer Lawrence’s street style has been VERY good for a long time, and there’s lots to take notes on.
The piece was excellent, highly recommend reading, but let’s put a Long Live spin on it. How can you dress like J Law with what you have/on the secondhand market? Happy to help. Here are 5 tenant of her street style, which IMO you don’t have to be a mom to want to borrow from in your everyday life.
The Primary Color Theory
Notice the lack of patterns in the street style images in the collage above! Make like J Law and add a bright primary-colored layer to any outfit. It’s a cool way to break up an otherwise monochromatic look. And if bright red is your comfort zone, why not try something like a yellow scarf? Though, red pants are universally a great idea.
We’re looking for punchy colors here! Leave your muted palette at home. Or at least, compliment it with someone primary.
I believe in the power of a cashmere wrap the way I never could have at age 25. It’s my trusty final layer November-March. Opting for bright red is very fresh.
Butter yellow pants from The Row on TRR—is this the perfect tariro makoni x EV crossover?
This wool sweater is under $25. Run don’t walk!
This green is so cute. And she’s been seen in a RL hat! It’s $35 on eBay.
I have it on pretty good authority Jennifer Lawrence is a La Ligne girl. Colby pants in red, please! Also, ERIKAV10 you’re welcome. And here’s a $50 red pant option.
An Anti-Precious Approach to Luxury
Lawrence treats expensive pieces like regular clothes—big sunglasses for errands, nice bags for casual walks. There’s no “saving it for a special occasion.” Everything gets worn and lived in. And that’s very Long Live.
Pull out the designer bag you tell yourself is too nice and use it for a week. I think you’ll find that the result is something way less serious than you imagined. I also think shopping secondhand is a way to mitigate some stress around “fancy” items. It’s why I’ve always loved carrying beaten up Louis Vuitton monogram print.
Really hard for me to not just order this for $500…maybe 2026 is my Fendi Mamma Baguette era.
I’ve seen pics of Jennifer Lawrence carrying LV epi leather. This sculptural design feels aligned and it’s $525.
And if prompted, I think she might like my personal newest bag addition—one I’ve been eying for years from my beloved Lindquist.
Oversized as Default
Size up! But not just in the sense you’re thinking. Try bigger sunglasses. Carry a bigger bag. Opt for a bigger scarf. This is very integral to her denim choices, too. It’s comfort-first, but in a considered way.
A lot of her pants also skim the floor, which, as a very tall person, I dream of, but is also a welcome relief from cropped everything.
Great vintage Levis 501 pair for $45 I’d wear with this belt.
I can see her in the Still Here Cool Jean, especially in white…
Vintage track pants are just better. These are Adidas and $30.
Vintage Lands’ End cashmere (great search term FYI) for $30. I’d wear with this coat on cold days.
The bigger the preloved Celine sunnies, etc.
Repeat Offender Staples
A clear uniform does not equate to boring style. Exhibit A! Find your own white tshirt that makes outfits sing. Order six pairs of vintage Levis until you find the one that fits just right. And once you own your dream royal blue sweater, you can reach for it once a week, knowing it’s worth way more than a few blue sweaters that are almost right.
Even something like a black Birkin counts as a repeat offender, of course in a way more elevated sense than a plain tshirt. But it’s refreshing to remind yourself that wearing the same things over again, in new outfit iterations, is the ultimate power move.
You can practice this at home on a lazy afternoon. Take a piece you’re really excited about this season—new or old—and build three net new outfits with it. Take pictures and there you go. You’re set next time you face an outfit slump.
I just got this necklace that matches the one above to layer on to every outfit imaginable.
I’ve been dreaming of a Charlotte Simone coat. This one is a great deal at $390.
Your dream white t shirt might be a blank from the 90s for $20 on eBay…otherwise I bet it’s this one from soldoutnyc.
At $300, this &Other Stories coat is a pretty good match for the one seen in street style pics.
Practical Shoe Maximalist
She rotates between three very specific shoe categories: chunky platforms, flat sandals, and sneakers. We’re not dealing with anything too “delicate.” City girls get it! These are shoes for someone who’s actually walking places.
And there’s a lot of black footwear, which, in a world of prints and patterns, can feel grounding for an outfit. I’ve always been partial to a black pair of shoes worn with a black pair of sunglasses. It’s simple, but as you can see, the effect is elegant. I also hate to make it about the Yeti, but I’m into it, as well.
I loved this letter from Daphne Javitch and ordered these shoes pretty immediately…
I mean, she sold me at “chic ortho.” They’re $45. I’ll report back!
How great are these? They’re $26 and size 7.
I’ve always found these flats from Margaux charming. And here’s a pair for $60 if that’s more your speed!
These feel right at home. And last forever! I have a pair in white. Not that I’ve ever hiked in them…ERIKA20!
You guys know J Law is a Rothy’s clog fan, too, right?

The most inspiration I get is when I google whatever celebrity’s style I’m loving + street style. Lots of Sienna Miller & Dakota Johnson. ❤️
Your posts always make me run straight to secondhand websites (mostly Vinted or Sellpy here in Sweden) to look for my next find! I love the look of surprise when people find out it was secondhand.
