Here's How I Went From $1,500/Year As A Freelance Writer To Six-figure Quarters
Our final installment this month
I grew up talking about money.
My dad worked in finance and started conversations around saving, working, and giving back really early on. I can still remember the proposal he created on a Powerpoint deck when it came time for my first allowance. Three dollars a week felt life changing then. I was maybe seven.
If you’ve been around for a while, you know my dad passed when I was 15. I miss him every day, but to be honest, talking about money with women I adore and working really damn hard—those two things make me feel close to him.
When I started freelancing, I was shocked to find how cagey other writers were about their rates and even how they were structuring their businesses. There was a scarcity mindset at play from the jump—like if you got $300 for a story and I only got $150, that meant there was only $450 to go around and we’d have to find a way to split it.
To combat this, I thought I’d outline what my consulting/freelance earning journey has been like for the past six years. This excludes taxes/expenses/any full time salary I was earning.
