Hey there, paid subscribers! It’s almost wedding season. If you, like me, aren’t going to give up and slip into a leftover BHLDN bridesmaids dress from years ago, it’s time to start shopping.
People lose themselves when it comes to dressing for weddings. They start wearing strappy sandals for the first time in their lives (guilty). They trust strangers to do their hair and makeup! Sometimes, they wear colors like salmon or mint! What?
The important thing to remember is that a wedding is an event. Even if it’s your best friend’s or your own, it’s simply a party. There’s no reason this should feel more charged than, say, a gala or fancy concert. And rest assured, everyone else is thinking about their own outfits/their own feelings about marriage any way.
Now we can get into the actual fun part: the shopping! I love the feeling of having a few great wedding guest dresses on hand that I can rotate between. I never buy a dress in direct correlation to a wedding because I get too fixated and feel like it’s weird to wear again. Instead, I’m always on the lookout for timeless contenders.
Here are some starters:
-Wear a color you wear in real life
-Don’t use someone else’s wedding as a chance to lose weight to fit into a dress
-Make sure it’s comfortable enough for twelve hours
-Accessories are key. Add a headband. Try a bow. Count on your red patent leather clutch to pull it all together.
Let’s shop! Have a specific request? Comment below. Those are the perks of being paid, baby!
