There’s a genre of Youtube video I find superior in its ability to calm and inspire. It’s not house tours, though those are borderline spiritual in their ability to conjure a lower heart rate. It’s not cooking videos, which make me reflect on all the peanut butter and celery dinners I’ve created for myself over the years. It’s thrift hauls.

Great thrift hauls are a hodgepodge of intention and delight. It’s a real “you plan, God laughs” energy. I’ve never been one to keep a list. Instead, I let the spirit lead, giving over to the serendipity of shopping secondhand IRL. The best thrift hauls capture this feeling. And it’s also important that they include prices, not as a brag, but as the kick in the ass you need to close the Amazon tab and hit your local thrift store.

Last week, I spent time with my best friend at her beach house. Our days there are long and punctuated by the crossword, a walk, her fabulous cookies, and if we’re lucky, a trip to one of the local thrift stores. She’s my favorite person to thrift with not only because she’s incredibly thorough, but because no one else lights up at a random tag sale like she does.

So here’s the recap of what I purchased, how much I spent, and how I plan to incorporate these items in my everyday life.
