The premise of today’s letter couldn’t be simpler: secondhand jewelry allows you to spend LESS money something worth MORE.

My engagement ring + wedding band! Not under $500 lol but my daily drivers. The ring is from Ceremony and the band was made by Spur from family stones.

I’m not suggesting that all “secondhand” jewelry is a steal (think estate, vintage, designer) but I am proposing that going slow and buying real gold (or silver) is a great way to build a collection you’re excited to wear every day!

Plus, these pieces will last much longer and become beloved heirlooms you can pass on to kids/friends/lovers. Just the idea is so fabulous to me.

Today’s curation has two guardrails: under $500 and solid 14k gold. I wear a mix of 18k and 14k, which I think some people are a bit confused by, so here’s the breakdown. 18k gold is 75% pure gold (softer, richer color, pricier) and better for pieces you don’t wear every day; 14k is 58% pure gold (harder, more durable, slightly paler) and the move if you want something you’ll actually wear constantly without it denting. Save the 18k for the necklace you wear once a month. Buy the 14k for the ring that touches everything. (Linking to where my engagement ring is from and the amazing team at Spur Jewelry Love Letters).

Read on for a plethora of beautiful, solid gold picks, plus the extremely affordable jewelry repair spot in Brooklyn my fashionable friend swears by.
