Happy holiday season from my tiny Christmas tree and towering pile of gifts. It’s well-documented, I love gift-giving, but as for general festive spirit—it’s not really my thing. I did celebrate with my best friend via Ed Ruscha at MOMA and an afternoon tea at The Russian Tea Room. I wished for alone time in Midtown over on Harriet when prompted with my holiday dream. So I guess I’m not too far off.
This week’s Long Live is a highlight of a new brand I adore + a celebration of a style of bag I’ve loved forever. My first memory of a basket bag comes from an Easter egg hunt where I was more concerned with bringing the pastel basket home as an accessory than the objective of the search itself.
I love that basket bags always feel casual. And I particularly like wearing them with dressier outfits to bring things back down to earth. In my opinion, basket bags should never have a label. They’re the everyman bag! While they might not always be the most practical (see Birkin origin story), basket bags are my one true love in the accessories department.
That’s why, when Erin Pollard reached out to tell me about her new brand, Underwater Weaving, I was instantly intrigued. I love this story Arden at Vogue wrote about Erin’s inspiration, her familial connection to the art of weaving, and how Underwater Weaving is bringing people together now. Bonus: she’s been really thoughtful about collaborations (see her amazing work with One/Of). My 2024 goal? To attend a weaving circle with Erin. Until then, I’ll be pairing my Small Woven Tote with everything.
Closing thought: wouldn’t the Ribbon Baguette Tote make a phenomenal hostess gift? Invite me for the weekend + let’s find out.

Archived Outfit
Maybe Underwater Weaving is more of a vision board item for you. I get it! Let’s find some baskets inspired by their incredible shapes.
I adore the shape of this $90 option on eBay, plus it’s more secure than most basket bags.
Another secure shape on eBay, but this one’s $17!
Embrace your inner Jane Birkin with a replica basket bag for $30 on Etsy. I prefer this smaller version.
I have a similar style from Paris that I love. This style comes in a bunch of sizes, starting at $38.
Or try a little texture with this pick for $50 on Etsy.
Honorable Mentions
A few books! What I’ve been drinking, etc.
Quiet Street—I loved this slim rec on American privilege from Ruby.
On Work—A thought-provoking essay collection on work.
Figlia, Casamara Club, and Visitor are all on my non-alc Christmas list.
