We have so much to catch up on! Mostly, my new job. I’m leading brand and content at Hearth Display, a company I believe in wholeheartedly. And lucky for you, all you have to do to skip the waitlist entirely and order your Hearth now is use this link! It’ll be delivered in early 2024. This display has the power to alter family organization forever. Can’t wait to be a part of it + work alongside a really brilliant team.
Ok, but back to fashion. And back to this week’s guest, Christina Holevas, who happens to write one of my favorite fashion substacks called Habiter. I was very honored to be featured here! I adore Christina’s cool style. Let’s get into her pick.
How long have you had this piece?
I've had it for about 1 year.
Where did it come from?
I looked for the right first watch for a long time. I knew I wanted something from Cartier and it needed to be vintage because of my budget. This odd little Santos with a dark gray face popped up in one of my saved searches on The Real Real and I pulled the trigger on it pretty quickly.
How much did you pay for it?
About $1300.
How do you wear it?
I wear it almost every day, with any kind of outfit. That's actually what I love about this watch - it adds a little polish to anything I wear, even if it's just ripped jeans and a tee or workout clothes. It's silly but it makes me feel kind of adult and professional in a way, regardless of what I’m wearing. I also really like that this watch incorporates steel and gold because it makes me feel more confident about mixing metals in my jewelry and accessories. I used to have a mental block about that!
What does it represent?
For me it represents an achievement. This is my first real watch and I bought it for myself. $1300 is a lot of money for me to spend. I've been working in fashion editorial for the last 10 years, which means I've pretty much always been broke (ha). I remember being a little nervous when I hit the purchase button, but it felt like the right time to honor myself and my hard work over the past decade. I recently left my full-time job to pursue a freelance career, and that notion of investing in me and knowing my value feels more important to me than ever.
Archived Outfit
I mean, the coolest, right? Let’s shop some watches inspired by Christina’s pick. And not to bury the lede, but expect from watch content coming from me in the coming weeks.
This Movado is $163 + I love that the face matches Christina’s.
Similarly, I wear this cute watch from March Hare nearly every day.
Rolex for $2k! Not bad!
A strong silhouette from Kate Spade for $80.
Another Movado for $116—sleek!
Honorable Mentions
Now’s a good time to write my glowing review for Ultra Mini Uggs. I wear my chestnut pair around my apartment and to get the laundry all winter long. They’re basic! Ok! Moving on! They happen to make a fabulous gift.
New newsletter alert! I’m loving The Perfect for all things random/shoppable. I’ve been wearing this St. Agni shirt and it’s really special. Fig. 1, a skincare brand I love, just launch dissolvable makeup wipes. Genius!
Big Magic—Reading this for the second time around. This time I’m not an annoying MFA student and I’m finding it incredibly moving. Sue me!
How To Stay Married—Really so good that I bought a copy after reading a library copy. All thanks to Ruby’s Recs!
Thank you for reading Long Live. It means so much to me. You can shop my favs here, follow along on Instagram + Tiktok, shop my Notion template, and as always, respond to this dispatch for my direct line x
The Movado watches are beautiful; they remind me a little of the Georg Jensen Vivianna watches, which I am still hoping to find at a reasonable price on ebay one day.
Love the style you chose! And I have a watch from March Hare too and love it so much! But alas, the siren song of my Cartier saved search on TRR calls to me on the daily ...
