It’s important to get a little reflective every once and awhile. Long Live has been live for over three years at this point and I’ve written 183 letters. I feel so grateful for this community and in an effort to celebrate that, I’m offering a sale on annual subscriptions. AND I’m going on vacation next week so wanted to write something a little less labor intensive—a win for all of us :)
Without further ado, here are the Long Live Superlatives.
FIRST LETTER: Something about a 76% open rate…perks of having 103 subscribers! It’s fun to see how much about Long Live has stayed the same since its launch. I was so nervous to send this out, and almost 200 letters later, I’m happy to report those nerves have certainly settled. It’s just a Substack!
MOST POPULAR: This letter came out almost a year ago and made a massive impact on Long Live. I still get DMs from people with images of old J.Crew catalogs they’ve found or looks inspired by this piece. Was it the inspiration behind J.Crew’s catalog revival? I guess we’ll never truly know.
FAN FAVORITE: Turns out you all are as obsessed with Paul Newman as I am. What a relief. I met a fashion idol of mine at a party, who introduced herself and said, “Wait, did you write the letter about Paul Newman’s style? I’m obsessed.” Day = made.
MOST CONTROVERSIAL: Some people had thoughts on this letter, but luckily most of them were behind my back. It represented a new foray into essayistic pieces for this letter.
PERSONAL FAVORITE: This was the beginning of making my obsession with The Vermont Country Store public knowledge. I love Salter House as much as the next girl, but stomaching $450 for a dress I knew I’d seen before for a quarter of the price? Not my vibe.
MOST RANDOM: It’s true; I’m obsessed with walking. But an entire letter dedicated to it? Maybe a bit much. This is what I love about 183 shots on goal. I keep learning what feels like Long Live.
MOST CAREER-FOCUSED: Proof that this little fashion letter can lean business if it wants to. I started writing about work more on my Tuesday Paid letter last year and found it so rewarding. Plus, we’re having more great conversations in this vein there very soon.
MOST RESONANT: The way people are still purchasing sneaker recommendations from this letter…And they should! It’s a great resource for footwear ideas off the beaten path.
