Long Live My 2022 Summer MVPs
On my latest seasonal rotation, Sienna Miller's house, and strolling.
At first, I was like, “Oh, I’ll write this newsletter about one piece swimsuits.” I combed through photos for three weird pictures from the past five years, only to realize I’ve already written that Long Live.
Instead, I thought I’d share this summer’s heavy hitters. I, like the rest of this city, would love to pretend that summer is over and celebrate fall’s imminent return. That would be overly optimistic and naive. Summer, at least on the weather front, lasts until October in the city. Those sweaters can stay hidden in your oven or wherever you find the space. That’s partly why having my wedding in November was so important to me. First, I wanted a chic bridal outerwear moment, sue me. But also because I detest dressing for the heat.
Let’s keep things positive by taking a peak at the four MVPs I’ve been reaching for often this season. All these items are new-ish (less than one year in my closet + all vintage/pre-owned), which feels like a vote of confidence in their addition.
White Athletic Shorts
Origin: eBay search term “vintage white men’s gym shorts 70s,” $11
I warned you! Denim shorts played second fiddle to athletic shorts this summer, and I might never look back. I love wearing these with a button up when I’m working from home. Don’t tell my coworkers!
Bode Button Up
Origin: Agent celebration! Ultimately found on Grailed, $412 (let’s collectively ignore this number)
Sometimes, really special items can feel too precious to wear, especially in the heat, but I’ve taken this top for a spin at least five times this season. I love it unbuttoned over a slip dress with sneakers. I might make it my summer uniform just to get that cost per wear down.
Merlette Dress
Origin: Fan of the brand for years, Poshmark search term “merlette,” $147
I knew I wanted a white dress that’s flowy without feeling like a 70s hippie fever dream. I have meetings to attend, people! Merlette is a really fabulous brand with chic silhouettes. This dress makes me look like a priest on Zoom. Fun!
Lacoste Polo
Origin: Watched this movie with my partner, eBay search term “white lacoste polo,” $27
This started off with me being a thoughtful partner until the polo slowly migrated to my closet. I love to wear it buttoned up with trousers and loafers to work. It’s equally as cute with a metallic mini skirt.
Archived Outfit
I’m dreaming of weather cool enough to layer for. Can you blame me? Who better to channel than Sienna Miller. Drop everything and watch her house tour, and then come back to admire this outfit. Suede shoes I’m less thrilled about, but maybe outside of New York I’d feel differently. But let’s focus on what’s going really right here. The jeans! (I know, Long Live on vintage denim coming soon.) The wash is ideal—light enough that they feel timeless without feeling tied to a certain era. I love the bagginess in the leg. I love the denim button up! It’s all working.
This button up is in the same shade as SM’s and is under $30!
Somewhere between a chore jacket and a button up lives this perfect 50s vintage shirt.
Honorable Mentions

The School For Good Mothers—I’ve already waxed poetic—an Instagram story with the text, “Holy shit"—about this book. Just trust me. Don’t wait for the hold line at your local library. March into your local indie, and read this book immediately.
This Story Will Change: After the Happily Ever After; A Memoir—Where are my memoir in fragment fans at? This book, which is about a divorce, mostly, but not exclusively, was hard to put down.
The Employees: A Workplace Novel of the 22nd Century—Short, spooky, sci-fi, I’ll break the alliteration to say, “dystopian.” At first, I thought this book was too weird to get into. And then something happened around page 20. You can read this in an hour.
How To Cook A Wolf—It’s not that I have “range,” it’s more that I like to keep an assorted rotation at all times. M.F.K. Fisher is hilarious. While I will be implementing zero of these recipes, I always love reading about food.
Aftermath—Rachel Cusk writes beautifully about the female experience. This book is about labor, motherhood, and I’m sensing a theme…divorce.
I’ve been having the time of my life going for strolls recently. As I’ve started drinking less (read: hardly ever), it’s fun to find an activity that doesn’t revolve around alcohol. Meeting halfway has been a good trick to get my friends in on the fun.
Thank you so much for reading. See you next, next Thursday! x
