This is a real week of outfits in my life. No galas. Zero uncomfortable loafers changed out of after taking some pictures. Just an honest-to-goodness slice of life. The hope is that you feel inspired to reach into your very readily available closet and pull together some new combinations instead of reaching for the same old thing.
Let’s get into the looks, if we can even call them that—outfits feel a little more apropos. For context, it’s around 40-55 degrees in NY these days. My outings involve subway rides, coffees at Sant Ambroeus, and slipping into a crowded dining room with a girlfriend and sparkling water at the end of the night. I can’t change from one outfit to the next, so a lot of the time, my outfit has to last 12-16 hours. And the worst part? I have to carry my laptop most of the time. So you can forget seeing any tiny bags.
When I’m not running around, I’m working from my apartment where a degree of decorum keeps me on task. But I’m not committed enough to wear high waisted silk trousers to take a Zoom from my dining table. It’s a balance of comfort, feeling pulled together, and exercising my creative muscle in outfit assembly.
Sunday: Coffee cake + Joan Didion
I make a concerted effort to abandon my inviting bed and charge out into the real world for a decaf Americano and a slice of my favorite coffee cake. Maybe this will motivate me to read some pages in Didion & Babitz, which I’ve decided to finish today. Comfort is king today, but I also couldn’t wait to wear my new puffer from LR. And tomorrow is wash day, so it’s the perfect use case for my Odele Dry Shampoo. I’ve been evangelistic about it for years, starting with this piece I wrote for The Strategist about its brilliance. Volume abounds. Another day is tacked onto my limp strands’ life. I have no excuse not to finish this book.
Monday: IRL at WSA
Call it corporate fetish a la
. Chalk it up to being stir crazy at home. It’s impossible for me to work an entire day at a desk with a tea cart and thoughtfully placed outlets without wearing a blazer. I’ve never had a true corporate job outside of fashion where dressing up was required, so I like to pretend.Tuesday: Dressed up for the movies
I try to see a movie one night a week. Some weeks, it’s with my friend
. She’s an incredibly well-dressed person, so these outings are a chance for me to pull out all the stops. This night, I went for something a little frilly and still very comfortable. I tossed an Odele Hair Oil mini into my bag because I wanted to look more slicked back than greasy. A fine line! The look was complete with a woven bag and an earl gray tea waiting for me at the Angelika counter.Wednesday: Working 9-5, maybe more like 9-7
When I put on a button down, it means I’m ready to work. This style of shirt is practically a second skin at this point. I like this particular version from Frank & Eileen for its subtle details. It’s very easy to wear. A sweater over the shoulders means I’m ready for whatever the day brings. This day, it turned out, brought an overdue email from my library. Sweater on, book under my arm, I couldn’t resist stopping for a maple matcha latte on the way. And a quick phone call to Ruby. It’s no wonder my work days drag on given my propensity for a little distraction.
Thursday: Skirting the issue
You’re either a skirt person or you’re not. I am devoted to the way wearing a skirt will always make me feel just a little dressed up. Today was nothing special, just some errands, meetings, and a drink later. Opting for this black lace skirt made everything feel a touch elevated. Eye rolly, sure, but it’s the holiday season and I don’t have a mantle to decorate. Might as well reach for black lace at every possible juncture!
Friday: Rough and tumble
There’s nothing like a rugby shirt to really round out the week. I’m not picky—cashmere, cotton, monogrammed, otherwise. It’s my hack to wearing a sweatshirt that feels a little more pulled together. I indulged in my secret favorite thing—working from my bed. It’s a rare treat for the days when I’d rather shut my laptop and stare out the window instead of working. This outfit is the fashion version of that sordid delight.
Saturday: Date night in Brooklyn
Getting dressed for dates is something I figured I’d be spending a lot more brain space on as a kid. Doesn’t that seem like the thing a 28 year old would do on a Saturday night? Stand in front of their closet pondering what outfit to pull?
Well, it happens semi infrequently over here, but tonight, my husband and I are set to our favorite restaurant in New York—Keen’s. I don’t want to discuss the new ownership—too soon—so instead, I’ll be sporting something a little sexy. Emphasis on little. My husband is pretty accustomed to us stepping out in matching menswear. A tuxedo jacket he couldn’t borrow? A real cause for celebration. I paired it down with boots and a simple bag. My favorite accessory has to be wavy, undone hair. Curls are great, but the texture I get from the Odele Texturizing Sea Salt Spray? That’s next level.

An excellent set of outfits for the week, thank you for sharing them.💕 I love the cowboy boots, blazer, short skirt outfit, but your faux fur over the blue dress outfit reigns supreme.
I love those cowboy boots! I am going to Vegas this weekend for a wedding, and I keep telling my husband if I hit it big at Black Jack, I am getting them!!
