The Secondhand Shopping Platform I Can Guarantee You're Sleeping On
Consider this your Long Live PSA
This letter is brought to you by ThredUp.
I’m picky about resale platforms. I know what I like. And it takes a lot for me to get curious about a new-to-me platform. But when a dear friend tipped me off that ThredUp had been in the game for SIXTEEN years and was back with new features/offerings, I was intrigued.
The whole mission of the platform, which I should honestly steal for Long Live, is to think of secondhand first. You need a dress for your son’s baptism. You need a jacket for the interview you’re still giddy over being offered. You need an outfit to ring in your 30th birthday in Tulum. It’s all already out there, on the resale market. ThredUp makes discovering it simple.
I have to admit, ThredUp is a seller’s dream come true. They send you a free Clean Out Bag, making a closet audit a breeze, versus having to separate into piles for multiple drop offs. Plus, they offer doorstep pickup in certain markets. Detailed tracking and better payout makes the difference for me.
And the curation is that perfect balance of organized and searchable. I want a level of discoverability! And that’s alive and well on ThredUp. If you’d rather shop via trend or you’re new to secondhand, ThredUp is an excellent place to start, with Your Daily Edit (100 items curated just for you, new every day) and The Trend Report (sorted categories, refreshed weekly.)
So whether you’re an old hand at secondhand dreaming of thrift basements in Indiana (me) or an aspiring secondhand shopper trying your best to think preloved first, ThredUp is for you.
I’m curating a plethora of picks ranging from high to low, all across categories, to prove to you the versatility of the platform. And because you know me. What could be a better way to spend an afternoon “working?” No fear: if any of the items below have been snagged, ThredUp will show you similar items so you can continue your hunt. The “Shop Similar” feature offers similar options with one click of the magnifying glass icon on every product page. Genius!
Burberry Blue Label Skirt ($201.99)—A timeless play on the pleated skirt guaranteed to make you feel like Blair Waldorf, in a fun way.
Lilly Pulitzer Dress ($44.99)—Vintage Lilly can be really expensive elsewhere. I was pleased to find a huge assortment under $50.
Tory Burch Jacket ($55.49)—You think you might be into a quilted jacket, but not enough to spend $400 on one. Start here!
Céline Sunglasses ($189.99)—I have no idea why anyone would buy designer sunglasses new. They’re always a fourth of the price resale.
Salvatore Ferragamo Boots ($589.74)—Not cheap, but I’ve seen this silhouette everywhere and it makes sense to opt for a timeless brand here.
Fendi Selleria peekaboo bag leather medium ($1179.99)—Shopping for a very specific designer bag? ThredUp is worth adding to your list of sites to check.
Joan Vass Coat ($24.99)—You want in on the zebra trend but don’t want the same Mango coat everyone else has.
AGOLDE Jeans ($37.99)—One of my favorite tricks is to, after you’ve found a pair of jeans you love, to stalk it secondhand and build a collection.
Stuart Weitzman Loafers ($78.99)—Buying loafers secondhand is scientifically proven to help with the break-in period.
Staud White Dress ($60.99)—This is a great example of being able to get something of way higher quality for the same price if you shop secondhand.
Tibi Cocktail Dress ($49.99)—If you’ve been a fan of a brand like Tibi for a long time, shopping it secondhand is a fab way to dip a toe.
J.Crew Collection Skirt ($28.99)—Obsessed with this skirt and the price is unbeatable.
Emilio Pucci skirt ($221.99)—Your other skirts are going to be very jealous.
Khaite dress ($244.99)—This could be the answer to what to wear to all the holiday parties you have coming up.
Banana Republic Casual Pants ($15.49)—Very important to note for other tall people, ThredUp makes it easy to see if a size is tall, which makes this deal even sweeter.
MaxMara Khakis ($68.99)—If you work in an office, these pants will have your coworkers all like, “Where did you get those?”
Acne Studios Sneakers ($44.49)—Sneakers under $50 feels like a win.
Isabel Marant 3/4 Sleeve Silk Top ($53.99)—I love the details on this top and know the material is twice as nice as what $50 would get you in store.
Honorable Mentions
Anyone else obsessed with Matilda Goad? I watch every video she puts out on Youtube.
I’ve been wearing these Nike sneakers with everything. Black sneakers are kind of a new look for me—I’m loving with white socks.

I love ThredUp for selling things-- I am way too lazy to photograph and ship things to buyers myself, so tossing it all in a box and sending it to ThredUp is well worth paying them their commission. Definitely skim the 'assorted brands' section since they often don't recognize some high end indie brands.
My favorite secondhand shopping tip is to save searches on Gem.app and get a daily round-up of everything that was just listed on all the major sites (TRR, Poshmark, ThredUp, Ebay etc).
ThredUP has been killing it lately. They have a personalized daily edit that has been very very good and just my style. I'm sending in my first clean out kit soon to make more room for my finds.
