Long Live Grace Atwood's Timeless Gucci Loafers
On the blogging icon turned Substacker's timeless fav
If you too were lucky enough to enjoy the bliss of 2010s blogging from the sideline, then you know
. The Stripe, her blog, is canonical and the content she’s created since is just as fab. I love her Substack, take her book recs very seriously, and enjoyed watching her build a beautiful home/life outside of New York. During the pandemic, I took many a sanity walk while listening to her and on Bad on Paper (lucky us! co-hosts with Becca now). Today, she’s sharing about a special purchase she made that feels incredibly Grace Atwood-y to me: classic, chic, and universally beloved. How long have you had these loafers?
I have had these loafers for almost eight years now.
Where did they come from?
I ordered them from the Gucci website, back in 2017.
How much did you pay for them?
They were $695. This is expensive, but seven years ago this was an even bigger splurge for me. It was my second year of blogging full time (I left my day job in 2015) so I really thought long and hard about it. It's worth noting that they are now $990.
How do you wear them?
I wear these loafers with everything. Mostly denim and sweaters. I feel so put together and classic when I wear them. These are an item that truly never goes out of style.
What do they represent?
Working for myself, being able to treat myself to something special I saved up for. Investing in the classics.
You can shop Grace’s exact loafers here, but you don’t need me for that! Here are some secondhand Gucci loafers.
If you’re a 7.5, these are resoled and ready to rip for $300.
If you’re a 10 and like a preppy little detail, these are just under $500.
Did someone say suede AND lug sole? These are a size 7 and $380.
I’d wear these 9.5s with busted denim. They’re $345.
Maybe my favorite pair: lizard, men’s 8.5 and under $200.
God loves a 7.5! These are $275.
This is not a drill. These are very rare and $700 and one size too small for me, lucky you!

Thank you so much for having me (and for the kind words!). xx
Love this! I found Gucci loafers for $400 at a thrift store in Santa Barbara this year and felt so guilty buying them, but this is making me feel like I really got an investment steal!
