I need to reflect on this as someone who lives alone and fears falling down the scary basement stairs while holding a massive storage tub of seasonal clothes 🫣

I just got a storage bed for this reason! It's been a game changer. My goal was to never go to our building's basement again 😂

I live on the Northern California coast where temperatures can vary daily from 60 to 75. So we all wear variations on the same clothes all year. Yesterday I wore a flannel shirt over a tank top with jeans, and today I might wear a striped breton over linen pants. Your idea is what we already do here out of necessity, and it lets you take daily advantage of more of your wardrobe.

I love the idea of dressing for Northern California!! So cozy

It's often cozy, but you should hear us whining when the temperature occasionally gets above 80!

Came here to say something similar. I wear most of my wardrobe year-round, including the puffer jacket I wore last night in SF. Layers are a way of life here in the Bay Area!

Completely agree - layering with unexpected items at different times of year is where the most fun happens! Although, I live in the UK where jumpers are a must all year-round, so that helps 😅

Ugh I wish I could wear a sweater in June but I live in Texas and that’s just not my reality 😭 I do keep all but the most summery of sundresses out year around and that does make me feel a bit better. But oh how I long for a cozy sweater and a chill summer evening.

It literally takes me all season to swap out my closet for just one word: moths.

I live in terror of moths. I was raised that it is absolutely mandatory to hide sweaters away in bags for the summer to protect them.

Lol my office IS a tundra AND I live in a sauna of a fourth floor walk up 😂 I've tried to keep my wardrobe much tighter these days so that seasonal swap is less overwhelming. Happily I'm down to only packing away the seasonally extreme! I just got a storage bed so if I do need a cashmere sweater, it's easily accessible.

For me it’s definitely out of sight, out of mind, so anything that gets packed away never existed!

YES. Another vote here for against. This has been on my mind *so* much lately, especially after wanting to wear something this past week that I knew was sadly in a storage box on the bottom of a gigantic stack of storage boxes. And yep, it's still in there. I have such a small closet, too, though! The struggle is real.

I've never been that thankful to live somewhere with mostly summer as a season but this post has me happy for it because I DO keep most of my clothes out year round. Our summers last about 6 months so I do put away heavy jackets & sweaters just for space saving but everything else stays out!

As a born-and-bred Miamian who’s still relatively new to seasonal dressing in the city, I fully support mixing things up!

Yes! I finally stopped rotating my closet about 10 years ago and it's both helped me limit my impulse spending + dress better - in the things that really suit me - all year round.

Totally agree. I was watching a closet tour on YT the other day and the woman explained she organizes her closet by season. I thought it was so weird to say "this is a winter skirt" and "this is a summer top" and to keep them completely separate from each other, as if nearly any clothing item can't be styled or layered to work across all seasons. It feels so...uncreative? And like you said: limiting. Layer your lightweight cotton dresses with tights, boots, and sweaters, people! Let go of the idea that socks with sandals is a faux pas!

Ugh...in a constant push and pull on this (I too...dream of suburban level closet space)...completely agree re: seasonal thinking...totally limiting! You can also find the BEST STUFF when you shop off season (and for better $$$)
