Never realized how I do have to be in a good mood in order to have a productive day of closet clean out. If I treat as a task it feels laborious, if I treat it as fun, I actually do have fun with it. Love love love this.

I loved the "put back with care" step. ❤️ (I mend sweaters in Seattle for anyone who wants to get a favorite sweater back into rotation!)

Also enjoyed your creative ideas for sentimental items. I have a dresses my mom made me as a child that are just sitting in a bag. Wonder if I could display one somehow!

Brutal to hear but you’re so right to call bs on keeping stuff that only fits one week of the month! I’m going to try this next clean out. Also, I am in nyc but from KS and go to KC frequently, often to buy and sell vintage clothes. Love KC so much!!

To know thyself (and apply that during a clean out) is the most important thing! And I am totally using a mantra next time. Thank you for the fresh perspective!

Love this, honest and straight forward. “The stories we tell ourselves about our clothes are not that serious” 🤍

The only thing I would add/amend is be careful cleaning out your closet post big life change! I cleaned out my closet after I had my son, and I should have waited until he was a bit older, or at least binned the clothes to revisit. My body changed multiple times and I threw out some things that would have now fit!

So true!!! I think having a tiny NYC closet does make me a little too cutthroat for this hahah but very safe advice
